AGES OF FIRST CALLS FOR FEMALE DEVONS ?

please what are the average ages for a female si rex to start her first call? am advised anything from 6 mths onwards, and are they lots less loud and vocal than my siamese used to be ? why? well - my lovely Candi isnt calling as far as I can see but its been so hot this week and shes almost been sneaked up on by believe it or not my big laidback grey and white male neuter moggie aged almost ten !! ps we dont want her togo to stud for  babies until she is about 12 mths of age and well grown of course, which would be around decmber time, thanks, babs x

  • My mink girl became in heat when she was just over 5 months old. SHe wasn't very loud the first few times. My white female (mink underneath) was around 5 1/2 months old. The other girls were a bit older.
  • oops! same as siamese and some orientals then? maybe she will be a late starter, shall be on alert in case.... ps our cats are all neuters, apart from candi of course...
  • It might help a bit when you don't have a fertile boy in your home, cause they do get in heat faster when you do have one, at least as I noticed with my cats. I know there are also devons that are much later in heat, around 9 or 10 months, so hopefully your girl will wait a bit longerSmile.gif. My girl Ebony was a bit over 8 months the first time she became in heat.
  • Yes I agree with Nathalie. I f you have an entire boy around they will call very young 5-6 months without a boy usually abit later and not as frequent. Also, the weather is part of it. The warm weather can make a difference.
Each cat is different too I have a devon girl here who is a very quiet caller, my older devon girls were both very loud and full-on.
  • woozle called very early on at around 4 months and we didnt have a entire boy then lily was about 6 months storm about 5 months daisy 5 months but we now have rory shouting them so that doesnt help in the slightest. mine drive me mad as 1 comes into call the others follow so a house full of hormonal queens and a horny stud outside its like a mad house lol x
  • thanks, shes still scooting around like a happy little kitten, am enjoying this stage and her best chum is Chutney nb he was neutered a month ago though - nb didnt know that one queen coming onto call can trigger others, that fast of feline lifes new to me shelly ...

  • I'd say it depends a little bit on what time of the year the female is born. For a female to go into heat she needs appr. 14 hours of light a day. My two first queens were born in the autumn/winter and both started calling at 5-6 months of age but my current queen who was born in the middle of summer didn't start until she was 10-12 months something.
  • she was born on boxing day 26th december - she still isnt thinking about a first call its all silent at this time and the hot sticky summer weathers turned cooler this week and also wet - she hasnt met a stud boy of course so maybe she will start calling late this summer ?

  • Yeah, I'd guess she'll start this summer. Just about any time now.
  • my first ever siamese female screamed her head of for several days - dont suppose a devon makes that much noise though? in a way cant wait to hear her - otherwise am so enjoying my si rex as a little girl her coats lovely!
