Breeders in Melbourne

Hi. I am a veterinary student looking for a Devon Rex kitten next year. Can anyone recommend breeders in Melbourne who produce, healthy, happy and socially adjusted Devon Rex kittens? I've never owned a Devon before so practical advice, especially on suitability of having one is a smallish apartment would also be greatly welcomed. Do they adapt well to this kind of environment? I would also consider rehoming or fostering an older Devon if the opportunity arose.

Thanks for any advice!

  • Hi Gemma, I would recommend you try Devonpark Rexkatz or Nahren Devon Rex.

Neither is listed on our Breeders page but you should be able to find them through Google.

    I hope this helps.

  • Hey Gemma,

Re having a Devon in a smallish apartment - we live in a 2 bedroom unit in a security building & it's definitely big enough for our two Devons.

I've think it's the vertical (rather than horizontal) space that's important. They're happy, as long as you have things for them to climb up, like cat trees, or even putting a cat ladder on the side of a bookcase. Another example - I have Catty Stacks boxes at the window that they can climb up, and then a window perch (that's stuck on with suction caps) that they can get onto at the top of the boxes. They love sitting up high, looking out the window.

Good luck with your search. I don't think there's anything quite as wonderful as a Devon Rex. They're a very special breed.

  • Thanks so much for your help!

  • Hi Gemma,

I have a kitten from Nahren Devons (Wendy Foster) and can definitely recommend her as a breeder. I had the opportunity to visit her and the kittens and they are all happy, healthy kittens brought up inside her home. I agree with Em's comment also, you can keep them in small apartments as long as they have plenty of cat trees and vertical things to climb on. Good luck with your search!

  • Talk to Penny at DevonPark Rex.  Penny is listed on the breeder page and she might have a cat for rehoming.  Penny has healthy, adorable, sociable Devons that are raised in a healthy pristine environment.    Devon's are fine in an apartment however they do like company so you might consider two!
