  • Hi Nicole

Tilde has had mammary gland lumps on occasions. From memory it was when she was reaching sexual maturity, but never during pregnancy that I have noticed. Do you have a girl you are concerned about?

    Gill
  • Hi Gill,
Thanks. Yes I do, she is pregnant though and we are monitoring it....it is getting larger though.
They had hoped to wait to remove it ( whatever it is) after she has had her babies but I think I will get it checked again next week.
  • Nicole,

Do you mean the coins around the nipples when pregnant?

    Penny
  • Hi Penny, no not the "80 cents". :-)

It is a lump under one nipple only and it has appeared since she became pregnant. It was checked last Monday but I think it definitely getting bigger.
  • Hi Nicole,

That is a worry, I haven't had any experience with lumps of that description. I hope all goes well. How long before you are expecting the kittens?

    Penny
  • Hi Penny, she is due in around 4 weeks.
  • hi, yes we had two orientals, a mum and then her daughter, ages ago, the mum was a lilac oriental the daaughter was a darker havana, mum only had two litters then we spayed and showed her, daughter dint have any babies too stroppy to be shown - but they both suffered mammary tumours , in the first case it was like a fine web of tumours cirling outwards from her nipples down one whole side, the vets did the op, but it worked, she was all clear for about eighteen mths, then the other side started, so back to vets for surgery, they were bi opsed as malignant cancers, but she did live a good life for almost another six mths with tlc - the daughters were linear and far faster, we didnt have much time with her... its prevalent within the siams and orientals as breeds, think more so in the orries sadly.. ps hope and pray your girls preggie goes well and then the vets can keep a check on her , think theres more treatments these days thankfully x best wishes, try not to worry too much at this stage til see what vets say again !
  • My female got a swollen lymph node just next to her top nipple (looked like someone placed a big pea under her skin). My vet took it out and removed the mammory gland at the same time. I got the answer about the lymph node today from the pathologist. It was diagnosed as a good tumor (thank god). The tumor was the result from a mammory gland infection earlier this fall when she had kittens (it was treated with antibiotics but obviously there were something that made the tumor)
  • That's good news, Eva :-) Hope it turns out to be nothing much in your girl too, Nicole.

  • Thanks for the replies and info. That is good news about your girl Eva and hopefully it turns out to be something similar.
It is not how you describe it Babs in your Orientals- rather just one lump. It feels like a big cyst really. I am trying not to worry too much but it has taken so long for her to become pregnant again after a disastrous litter early last year and now this.
