Neurological Disease

I have had an enquiry from a devon owner who said she had lost her 3yr old devon boy to a neurological disease that ate away his brain. Has anyone had any experience with this in devons as i said i would find out for her ?? she is interested in buying another but is of course wanting to find out if it is common as i myself have not.

  • That sounds just dreadful Jen & no I've never heard of anything like that.
  • It sounds horrific, but no I havnt heard of anything like that.
  • I think she needs to find out some more info? That sounds like a very general diagnosis. Can you find out a bit more about it Jennifer?

  • Have got a little more information and it was just an assumption by the vet she really didnt know what went wrong so it could of been many things, only took blood tests so no autopsy. Seems he had a few more problems arrived from interstate on tablets vet said catflu and ongoing ulcerative colitis. So seems the vet has just told her what she things may have gone wrong *argg*
  • Argg is right
  • I would not be at all happy with that outcome!!! I can't remember if it was a kitten and if so the breeder needs to know what was.

The blood results might offer some idea if they are available. I would be getting another vet to look at the blood results. It is hard when the owners aren't really too worried about finding out what was going on. While the heartbreak is the same, it doesn't affect them in the same way as it can affect breeders as they don't have to make future breeding decisions.

  • The vet did blood tests but found nothing, he was 3 years old when he died and it sounds like it was awhile ago. Not sure i will hear anymore from them.
