Hi allI thought it would be good to nominate a time for all to log on to the online chat function. Not for general chit chat but for discussions based on specific topics of interest. They could be cat related or unrelated. I guess I envisage most of them being cat related. It could be any topic area, vaccinations, birthing issues, diseases of any kind, including cat flu viruses, FIP or heart diseases or any other issues.Finding a time that suits everyone who wants to take part would be the challenge I think. Maybe around 8pm when kids are bathed and in bed, dinner is over and most people have a chance to relax a bit. Kids are not an issue for me, unless you count the feline ones!!!! Oh and I forgot the topic closest to my heart at the moment, PEEING SOLUTIONS!!!!!Gill

  • It sounds like a good idea Gill. As you say finding a suitable time for everyone might be a challenge but we could certainly nominate a certain time for those interested / available. Evenings is probably a good idea.
  • I probably won't be much use as all my cats are perfect & don't have any "issues" Hmmm LOL, but evening would obviously suit me better as I work full time.
  • Sounds great Jill...
  • Name the time and I will be there!!!
  • Sounds like a good idea. I will make this a featured discussion so it stays at the top and we can just add to it.
Feel free to nominate topics etc.
  • Nicole has asked me if I am interested in coordinating the live discussion. If nobody objects I am more than happy to give it a go. I would also be more than happy to share the role if someone wants to do it.

    My thoughts are:

Only one night a week is probably the best idea then it doesn't become too difficult for people. It is no good doing it if people find it a chore to participate. At this stage I was thinking Thursday night about 8 pm if that suits most people. If not open to suggestions.

As Jodie suggested maybe members posting their ideas earlier if they cannot participate live. Whoever is doing the coordination has the responsibility of making sure those ideas are included in the discussion.

The person with the coordination role can also make sure the topics for each week are posted in advance.

It would also be good if anyone has the inclination to do some research on the topic area prior to the discussion. They can then share those resources so everyone learns from the process. If members share that role depending on their interests then it doesn't all fall to one person.

    So the Coordination role includes:

    Posting requests for topic areas
Notifying members of the topic for that week
Reminders about the time and day
Calling for ideas from members who cannot participate live.
The above could probably all be done as Nicole suggested through a Live Forum feature.

    Have I missed anything???
    Comments, suggestions welcome?????

    Gill
  • That all sounds great Gill. Thanks for agreeing to coordinate this and if anyone else wants to help with it please let us know.

Do you think live chat would be the best option or having it posted as a special topic on the forums? I guess the benefits with posting it on the forums is that the information remains there for future reference but on the other hand the live chat feature is very fast and more interactive.
  • Sounds great. I wont be able to participate though i work thurs frid till 11pm

Hmmmm....might be another reason to go with a live forum discussion rather than live chat feature. You can always add to it later...
I don't mind- whatever works best. What does everyone else think?
  • Hi Nicole and Jennifer

I am unsure of the difference between a live discussion forum and a live chat forum. Aren't they the same thing? The advantage as I see it with the live aspect is the immediate exchange of information and interaction.

It doesn't have to be Thursday night, what about a weekend? I guess it depends on how active a social life members have. Mine is pretty dull so a weekend works ok for me LOL.
