Ringworm

I'm so upset this morning. I finally got molly's skin allergy under control and now she has 3 ringworms. I just don't understand it, my house is clean, she gets the best of everything and only has contact with me and the rare visitor.I feel like a total failure, why does my girl get 2 big problems in the 4 weeks we've had her! Please tell me ringworm is common in kittens and it's not just that I suck.

  • I believe it's not your fault. Spores are able to infect through months, even years. The causes may be:lack of necessary lipids in the food, low temperature of the surrounding, stress.
Maybe it's stress caused by moving to new house-the stress lowers cat's immunity.
  • It is not your fault! Ringworm is terrible, it can just "be in the air" and it's very contagious. The risk of getting all kinds of problems is higher after a period of stress, which she probably had by moving to her new house.
I hope you will be able to get rid of it soon, from what I've heard it is hard work to get it out....
    Good luck
  • Kittens are very susceptible to ringworm, she could have had them before she came to you and you just didn't notice if she had a skin allergy. Also if you where taking her to the vets for her allergy she may have picked up a ringworm spore there.

Hang in there, you definitely do not suck, you are just having bad luck.
  • Believe me it is not the bid baddie everyone thinks it is. It has a bad name but came be cured quite easily by natural methods.

  • hi a friend of mine who bred persians had ringworm in her cattery it travelled through the lot of them after spending £1000 s of pounds on stuff from vets every time she thought she was clear it appeared and the stuff from vets made her cats and kittens poorly sickness and runny tummys because it was toxic after massive research and many tears and stress and months of vets bills she came across lime sulpher she diluted it with water in a bucket and dipped her cats in once a week with 3 dips it was gone however she still had to get rid of the spores in her runs and home which she cleaned with bleach every think she could vacumed twice a day threw away bedding cat post etc anything that could have haboured the spores, it was gone!!!!! she said the lime sulpher was her life saver, after her encounter with ringworm we bought a bottle of lime sulpher and i use a capful each time we swill out our cat pens as a prec, its not your fault just bad luck it can be picked up from cat shows, breeders badgers, foxes, vets anywere good luck im sure you will be fine
  • this sounds a good simple solution to the probs of rinworm shelly ps havent heard of lime suphur til today thanks shall log it into my memory l nb some years ago one of the uk universities was doing a ringworm study they went around a catshow asking exhibitors for small skin scrapes at the end of the day and think all said yes pleased to help their studies - my farmer cousin once caught ringworm from the cattle when I was a small child and mother was so worried but unlike lots of other illnesses and infections it can be treated and it isnt as awful as some people still think - so chin up am sure cats will be ab fine x
  • Hi Kay
My friend had Ringworm in her cattery and was desparate. She found a good Homeaopath used drops and cured the cats very effectively and without the toxic side effects of traditional medicine. I will get the full details and post it asap. It is very effective as I was aware of the stress and worry she was under, now she has no fear of ringworm. Also interesting to note is my father has Romany Gypsy Heritage. When we were children I contracted ringworm he cured us simply and effectively by using ash from the fire and lemon juice which is making me intrigued about the reply here about lime Sulphur, sounds similar.

  • My friend quickly and painlessly cleared her cattery of ringworm by using Homeopathic drops made up specifically for ringworm by a homeopath just 2 drops twice a day in water bowls. She also used Citrus Seed Extract or also called 'Travellers Friend' bought at most chemists - 2 drops twice a day in water continued over three weeks. The ringworm was gone in less than this. Also good is Grapefruit Seed extract. Also, a diluted spray of Apple Cider Vinegar instead of bleach to clean areas in cattery. Also good is Tea tree Oil, both tea tree and Apple Cider Vinegar will kill ringworm if place on the spots but need to be careful as it can sting. It seems citrus based products are the way to go with ringworm. If you look on the net at natural cures for ringworm there has been alot of success with these products on people and animals.
