Fitzroy the snuggly boy

Hello everyone, I'm writing about Fitzroy, http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/22426731

We went to visit him today and he is such a sweetheart. But unfortunately, he looks to be pretty sick. He caught an upper respiratory infection at the kennel and already arrived in pretty bad shape. He has IBS and possibly is anemic. The vet didn't perform any real diagnostic tests, but feel the problem stems from IBS and stress induced anorexia. Fitzroy has lost about a pound in the last 4 days.

We are students who would love to take care of him, but at this point I'm not sure we have the cash flow for him. But I am willing to pick him up for anyone, take him to the vet for treatment and babysit him until someone can adopt him forever. We have a connection with a rescue and all the paperwork and adoption process could be taken care of with them, but we would ask for the fees and medical care to be taken care of. Please contact me asap if you are interested in him. He really is darling!

Also, no children please, because he was surrendered due to potty behaviors after the arrival of a newborn.

  • RIP Sweet little boy.

It breaks my heart that any animal gets left at a shelter, but even moreso when they aren't gotten the care they need, when they need it.

At least he's not suffering now, though.  Bless you for spending time with him.

  • Yes I keep rethinking it too. If I had driven all day to get him, he probably would have died in the motel that night, if they had even let me take him in his condition. I wouldn't have even thought to find an emergency vet just coming from an animal shelter with a vet on staff.

A sick Devon was dropped off at a shelter in Az and they contacted a rescue org right away because they could not adopt out a sick animal and they did not have the funds to treat him. Its too bad this shelter did not have the same policy.

Knowing Devons, his response to affection probably fooled everybody to how sick he was. Thank you for offering to take him for someone, maybe we could try that again sometime.

Sharon, thanks. We actually had a ton of rescue orgs trying to pick him up, but he didn't even make it through the night. I'm really broken up about this. I keep replaying the time we spent with him and the conversation we had with the shelter staff, over and over. I just wish we would have taken him right then, but I'm not sure it would have changed things.

  • so sorry to read this - rip special devon boy x you did what you were able to do ps we lost one of our moggies this morning at the vets as well - I also got to cuddle her thats a help at sad times - hugs x

Oh I'm so sorry. I just logged in to ask you to pick him up for me. I thought about it all day, considered the cost, researched IBS to see what I was in for. I'm too late. He probably just needed hydration, basic care.  Poor little guy, glad you got to comfort him.

  • Oh Erin... that is so very sad. Frown.gif

I'm glad you got to give him a culddle.

    Poor boy - RIP Fitzroy.

  • 'm very sad to say that Fitzroy died in shelter last night. I'm glad we got to hug him before he went. He must have been more ill than we thought. PLEASE don't turn cats into the shelter! They didn't even give him basic medical care. Terrible.

  • I hope someone will take care of this boy.  I'd take him in a heartbeat, but I have a 10 month old and I would not wish him to be stressed just as much as he was in his previous home.

    Poor dude.
